The cornett and the sackbut,
although still little-known in our own day, were omnipresent in the musical life
of the XVth, XVIth and XVIIth centuries. Their versatility, due in essence to
the distinctive qualities of the sounds they produced, enable them, for example,
to play a part in the official ceremonies of the court, such as festivities,
weddings and the entry of important persons, and in balls, but especially made
them the most suitable instruments for supporting chantry choirs in churches. |
